" We need your help to save a young boy’s life. Mohammed is a 14-year-old Iraqi refugee living in Jordan. His family was forced to flee Iraq because of sectarian violence: his father is Sunni and his mother is Shi’a. Mohammed has a congenital deformity in his spine that has made him severely hunched over and confined to a wheelchair. He urgently needs an operation to correct the curvature of his spine. Doctors have said this operation must be performed within the next few months in order to save Mohammed’s life.
Children’s Hospital in Boston has agreed to treat Mohammed, and with help from the Ray Tye Medical Foundation, they can provide the life-saving operation free of charge. Because Mohammed’s need is so time-sensitive, we have obtained an emergency medical visa that will allow him to come to the United States for six months to receive treatment. The House of Peace, a humanitarian organization in the Boston area, will provide housing for Mohammed and his mother.
We need your help: While the surgery is covered, we need to raise money to pay for their plane tickets from Jordan, visa expenses, their out-of-pocket expenses while they are in Boston, and extra funds for additional medical costs outside the scope of the operation, including medicine. Because of the possibility that additional medical treatment will be costly, we are trying to raise $15,000 to cover all contingencies. Any extra funds we raise will be donated to the House of Peace for their continuing work with Iraqi refugees.
